ThepurposeoftheAdministrativeRolesChartistoexplaintherolesofallthe
participantsinourstudentscommunitieswhomakeacontributiontoeachstudents

Content/ClassroomTeachers
Contentteachersarethelinkbetweenthestudent
andeveryoneelse.Theyhavethemostinteractionwiththestudentsandhave
themostknowledgeaboutthestudentsacademicknowledgeorlevelof
functioning.Teachersshouldbefamiliarwiththebackgroundofeachstudentand
shouldhaveanunderstandingoftheirfamilylife.Theseteachersshouldbe
workingcollaborativelywithallotherstaffmemberswithinthebuildinginorderto
bestserviceeachchildwithintheirclassroom.Specifically,contentteacherswill
benefitfromworkwiththereadingspecialistinhowtousespecificstrategiesthat
willhelpstudentsnavigatetextbooks.
SpecialEducationTeachers
TheSpecialEducationteacherisresponsiblefor
providinginstruction,withinoroutsideoftheclassroom,tostudentswhohave
beenidentifiedasTier2orTier3instruction.Becausethesestudentsarenot
typicallysuccessfulinaregulareducationclassroom,SpecialEducationteachers
needtoprovideamodified/adaptedcurriculumtothesestudents.

tomeet/reachthesestudentswithintheclassroom.
Paraprofessionals
paraprofessionalsworkwithindividualstudentsorsmall
groupsofstudentstoreinforcelearningofmaterialsorskillsthatwereinitially
introducedbytheteacher.Theymayalsohelptheteachermonitortheworkand
behaviorofthestudents.
BilingualTeacher
Abilingualteacherinvolvesthedutiesandresponsibilitiesofa
regulareducationteacher,withtheaddedchallengeofteachingintwo
languages.
ELLTeacher
TeacherswhoteachEnglishLanguageLearnersworkwith
studentswhospeakanotherlanguage.Theseteachersworkwiththesestudents
ontheiroralvocabulary,writingskills,andreadingcomprehension.Theyworkto
increasevocabularyintheEnglishlanguageandsometimestheydosoby
teachingthemintheirnativelanguage.
ReadingSpecialist
ReadingSpecialistsareinchargeofprovidingexpert
instruction,assessment,andleadershipforthereadingprogram.Thereading
specialistsupports,supplements,andextendsclassroomteachingandworks
collaborativelytoimplementaqualityreadingprogramthatisresearchbased
andmeetstheneedsofthestudents.Theyalsoassessthereadingstrengths
andneedsofstudentstoprovideinformationtoclassroomteachersandparents,
aswellaspsychologists,specialeducators,orspeechteachers.Last,the
readingspecialistprovidesleadershipasaresourcetoeducators,parents,and

SpeechandLanguagePathologist
TheSpeechandLanguagePathologistis
responsibleforworkingwithstudents,1:1orinsmallgroups,toprovidesupport
inphonemicawareness,phonics,readingfluency,vocabularydevelopment,and
readingcomprehension.Becausethereisaconnectionbetweenliteracyand
speech,theseinterventionsareintegraltostudentsuccesswithliteracy
development.
Psychologist
Aschoolpsychologistprovidesdirectsupportandinterventionsto
students,teachers,families,socialworkers,andcounselors.Theyhelpschools
improveacademicachievement,promotepositivebehaviorandhealth,support
diverselearning,createasafeandpositiveenvironment,strengthenrelationships
betweenschoolandhome,andmonitorstudentprogressinacademicsand

AssistantPrincipal
Assistantprincipalsassistprincipalsasinstructionalleaders
tosupporttheschoolwideliteracyprogram.Theyhelpestablishconditionsfor
studentsuccessanddevelopingapositive,supportivecultureforlearning.
Superintendent
TheSuperintendentistheheadofadistrict.Theyare
responsibleforevaluatingprincipalstomakesuretheyareeffectiveleaders,
workingwithteachersattheschooltoservetheneedsofstudentsandmeetthe
districtgoals.Thesuperintendentmustbeincommunicationwithteachers,
students,parents,etc.
Principal
Principalsareresponsibleforensuringthattheliteracyprogramis
beingimplementedthroughteacherobservations,teacherconferences,and
professionaldevelopmentopportunitiesintheformofworkshops,demonstration
lessons,andcoaching.Theprincipalcanmakesurethatteachersregardthe
readingspecialistastheprimarypersonfordevelopingtheliteracyprogram,as
wellasunderstandingtheimportanceofcollaboratingwiththereadingspecialist.

firefightersinmomentsofstressandtension.Manytimesachildmaygetthe
opportunitytointeractwithpoliceandfirefightersincommunitysponsored

PostalWorkers
PostalWorkersmightbethoughtofbystudentsandchildren
justasmostothergovernmentalworkersare.Postalemployeesarehowevernot
likelytobeencounteredintenseoranxioussituations.Also,thesepeopleinthe
communityaspeoplethatkidsandstudentswouldencounteronamuchmore
frequentbasis.
Congressperson/Senator
Studentsandchildrenoftenmighthavethe
opportunitytothinkaboutdiscusstheactionsoftheirlocalrepresentativesand
Senators.Theymightresearchwhathowthesepublicservantsvoted,andmight
evengettheopportunitytoquestionandlearndirectlyfromthesepeople.
