Class Room Reboot

by:Frank, Kameron, Evan, Gunnar

Intro
Schools have been using the same classroom set up for a long time, and
we think its time to change to something that is new, efficient and helps all
people involved. The new set up needs to be effective for the space given,
mobile, and most importantly offers collaborative spaces for student. The way
to accomplish this is is to have desks that are easy to move for different
activities and have white boards for students to work on and exchange ideas.
This setup will be functional, mobile and offer many opportunities for
collaborative work that will increase productivity and focus for all students.

Deskss
These desks by Smith Systems offer
multiple learning setups due to
their curved design and also the
chairs are able to roll allowing the
classroom to be mobile and create
new learning environment. Also
the desks themselves are
relatively light and are easy to
move.

Connectivity Clusters

IN this class setup, 2 groups of 4 kids will

share a big white board
This setup creates a lot of space in the
middle of the room allowing for out of the
box learning.
This class setup can also be good for
socratic seminars, because the chairs have
wheels on them, so kids can move around
better and form groups.
This setup is used for collaboration, and is
very easy to learn in different ways. Such
as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic
learning.

Desk Pairs

This setup provides students the more

traditional lecturing, but also gives the
students the chance to collaborate with
a partner, that is sitting right by them.
This setup is used for collaboration, and
communication by 2 kids.
This works for visual and auditory
learners and is easy for the teacher to
manage.
This also is good to communicate with
others around you, because it is easy to
move.

Traditional

This setup is more traditional by having

rows facing the teacher.
Provides great space for lecturing and
presentations.
The traditional setup also gives
opportunities for standardized tests to take
place such as PARKS, ACT, SAT and so on.
Allows teacher to manage the classroom
more efficient and there students.

Costs
30 desks and chairs= $4200
1 tradditional whiteboard= $350
total= $4550
This simple change has a cost, but can make an
immense difference in ways that our students and
teachers learn and run the class room.

Conclusion
Even though the traditional classroom setup has worked
in the past, it is time for change. Schools like Design 39
campus and Vida middle school in San diego have already
transferred to classrooms that are functional, mobile and
meant for collaboration and there students are reaping the
benefits of increased productivity, better focused and
driven learners. Its time to take a step in that direction
giving our students and teachers the best opportunity for
success.
