SUMMARY
I have worked as a certified nursing assistant at a home health
company. I am currently a nursing student at Southern Utah
University. When I graduate I plan on becoming a Registered Nurse
as a pediatric nurse, specifically the NICU. I also have experience
with children, as I have volunteered for the local 4H program in
Cedar City. I worked with children on their homework and with other
activities that expanded their horizons. This was for a program that I
participated in at Southern Utah University. It is called the EDGE
program. At SUU this program is to give students an edge into the
professional world, it gives us experience outside of the classroom to
enhance our learning. These experiences have prepared me for my
future career as a pediatric nurse.

SKILLS
Communication
Communication was vital to my job as a CNA. Times would change and
things would come up with other patients, so I would have to call and
clearly communicate what went wrong, or when exactly I would be
coming. I wanted them to know exactly what I was doing in order to be at
their home on time. I was also able to communicate with the patient while
I was in their home, if they had questions about my care or the care of my
company, I was able to concisely answer any questions. I was able to put
them at ease and make our visit as comfortable as possible. Especially if
it was their first time with an aide helping them into their shower; its an
unnatural thing for most people to accept that kind of help, but I made
sure to put them at ease with my presence.
Organization
As a Home Health Aide, I had several patients a day, and had to work
around everyone schedules. There were days I would have to move
patients around to fit me into their busy lives, as well as never miss a visit
with other patients. I was able to organize my day and create times for
adjustment. I never missed a patient or forgot one. Each patient received
my care at the time that we arranged for that day. I also had to organize
my time as a student; with the EDGE project I would go and mentor
several hours a week at the local elementary school. I had to balance
work, school, and my project within each week.
