NDP Environment Critic Cathy Sproule Votes Against Real Action on Climate Change

(April 2, 2015) Today, the opposition NDP took the unprecedented step to vote against real
action addressing the production of greenhouse gases (GHG) worldwide by failing to stand in
support of the innovative Boundary Dam Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) facility.
Prior to the vote, NDP environment critic Cathy Sproule hypocritically stood in the Legislature
to present a petition asking the government to take action on climate change. Later, when
given the opportunity, she stood to vote against SaskPowers CCS project a project that
removes the equivalent of the carbon dioxide produced by 250,000 cars off the road.
Unfortunately, this is what the people of Saskatchewan can expect from the NDP, said
Doreen Eagles, MLA for Estevan, day after day they say they want action yet they offer no
solutions of their own and then vote against measures taken by our government.
The fact is that the Boundary Dam CCS project is the first of its kind in the world. It will both
generate 110 megawatts of electricity for the province and simultaneously capture 90 percent of
CO2 emissions. Eagles said.
Eagles added, When you consider that the entire province has less than one million registered
vehicles, removing the equivalent of more than one quarter of those through the Boundary
Dam CCS project is huge, and is an excellent example of our provinces efforts to reduce GHGs.
Its too bad the NDP cant see past their own ideology to recognize that.
Since Boundary Dam began operation in October of 2014 it has surpassed its own reduction
targets. The technology developed here in Saskatchewan is being studied for export for
projects in China, Germany and elsewhere.
This is an exciting project that is attracting international attention and praise and our
government is proud of this made-in-Saskatchewan solution to a worldwide issue
