Based on the table above, the average Chlorophyl A in laku reservoir was 10.13 mg/m 3.

Chl a
is suggested to account for a high percentage of the light attenuation in many productive
inland waters (Field, 1983). The concentration of chlorophyll-a provides a good assessment
of the primary production or algal activities in a waterbody.

The nutrient of reservoir that we obtained were phosphate, ammonia, nitirite and nitrate. The
result showed the reservoir have good water quality because the reading of nutrient is
standard limit that will not contaminate the water. So the water are suitable for drinking water
at Bintulu.
The mean of phosphate is 0.22mg/L. It is one of the most important nutrient and a limiting
factor in the maintenance of reservoir fertility. (Medudhula et al, 2012) There are various
sources of phosphate to the lake water, such as firm rock
deposit, runoff from surface catchments, and interaction between the water and sediment
from dead plant and animal remains at the bottom of the lake. Phosphate is considered to be
the most significant among the nutrients responsible for eutrophication of lakes, as it is the
primary initiating factor. Phosphate enters the lakes in domestic wastewater, accounting for
the condition of eutrophication.

Bhopal, India, Electronic Green Journal, 1(21)
The mean of ammonia is 0.08mg/L. Ammonical nitrogen reaches reservoir through diverse
sources, major contributor being domestic wastes. (Ashok et al, 2010)
Ashok K. Agarwal and Govind S. Rajwar, 2010, Physico-Chemical and Microbiological Study
of Tehri Dam Reservoir, Garhwal Himalaya, India, Journal of American Science 2010;6(6)

The mean of nitrite is 0.006mg/L. No specific standard is given for nitrites in the pro-posed
water quality standards for inland waters. (Randika, 2011)

The average of the nitrate reading is 1.69mg/L. The raw sewage is the source of nitrates and
phosphates in the water (Aggarwal et al, 2000)
Aggarwal, T. R., Singh, K. N., & Gupta, A. K. (2000). Impact of sewage
containing domestic water and heavy metals on the chemistry of Varuna
river water. Pollution Research, 19(3), 491-494.
Using the pH as a water quality index, the reservoir has good water quality with the pH range
of 6.1-6.5, since most natural waters have pH between 6.5 and 8.5 (Tepe et al., 2005). The
pH range will allow survival of fish and its use as drinking water.
