Ethical Behaviour

Personal and social

Competence

!
Asia and Australias engagement with Asia

SPECIFIC LESSON
OBJECTIVE

Students will briefly outline the

history of geometry and Euclid.
Students will be able to identify
points and different types of lines

ASSESSMENT
(what & how)

Response in class
will be noted and
assessed for
knowledge

Intercultural Understanding

Sustainability

TEACHING & LEARNING

EXPERIENCES
(include learner diversity)

Students will learn about the brief history of

geometry and Euclids contribution to geometry.

KEY
QUESTIONS

Are the basics of

shapes known

RESOURCES

Webquest
Online videos

Students will learn the basic terms that form the

foundation of geometry (i.e. a point, a line and
an angle.

Basis of angles
understood

Online educational game

Can students
calculate angles
from identifying
the type of angle
relative to another

GeoGebra

Students will be able to describe the

properties of a right angle.

Understanding
Fluency

Problem-Solving

Students will understand how to

draw parallel lines and transversals
Students will be able to identify the
angles that are created around the
transversal and be able to name the
special angle pairs eg
corresponding, alternate and cointerior
Students will be able to recognise
how to draw parallel lines such that
they are readily identified as such

Observation in
class to identify
capability
Listening to
discussion in
class groups
Homework will
reinforce the
information in
class formal

Students will be re-introduced to the concept of

parallel lines (L1) and perpendicular lines as a
lead into transversals.
Students will draw transversals and explore by
measurement and discussion the 8 angles
formed.
Discuss and learn the names of the angle pairs
corresponding, alternate , co-interior
Students with practice examples acquire
knowledge that corresponding angles and
alternate angles are equal and co-interior are
supplementary (180 deg). Can calculate angles
on these basis

Can students
relate angles to
real life scenarios
and problem
solve

Online quiz/test

RESOURCES

Webquest
Students will understand the key
ideas of basic geometry and its
role in everyday life.

Response in class
will be noted and
assessed for
knowledge

Students will be re-introduced to the basic

geometric shapes (square, triangle, pyramid,
rectangle, cubes. Explore other shape names
known to class.

Are the basics of

shapes known

Students will be able to explain

exterior angle theorem

Observation of
group work

Basis of angles
understood

Students will be able to draw,

label, identify and name various
triangles (isosceles, equilateral,
scalene)
Students will be able to classify
correctly ensuring identify sides of
equal length labelled appropriately
Students will be able to identify
acute, obtuse, right angle triangles
and be able to draw them correctly
Students learn that angles add to
180 deg

Class responses

Students will be re-introduced to basic terms

associated with triangles (vertex, sides angles)
as well as reappraised of the various angular
terms, acute, obtuse, right, reflex, revolution.
Apply to compass bearing

Online videos

Students will be able to:

- define and classify polygons
- identify the properties of
polygons
- identify the different
quadrilaterals and describe their
properties

Homework
exercise will
reinforce the
information
outlined in class

Students to draw various triangles. Working in

pairs get students to measure interior angles.
Compare their results and draw conclusion.
Change shapes of triangles (for example
dragging the vertices (Geogebra??) and reconsider conclusion. What conclusion can be
drawn from the exercise?

Webquest
Online videos

Do students
understand the
various types of
triangles
Do they grasp the
concept that the
interior angles of
a triangle add to
180 deg.
