Dihydropyridine calcium channel
blocker
Blocks L-type calcium channels and
inhibits inward passage of calcium
ions through these channels
Binds to a site on 1 subunit

Causes substantial fall in BP and


reflex tachycardia

Pharmacokinetics
Oral Bioavailability: 65-90%
Half-life: 30-50 hours

Adverse Effects

Headache
Flushing
Peripheral oedema
Palpitations

Interactions
Hypotension may be exacerbated if
CCB are administered with other BP
lowering drugs (e.g. beta blockers)
