Oscar Sullivan (1942)

(a personal epitaph through a poem)

Oscar arrived the way he left,

Not kicking and screaming
But learning and sharing…

"Quam seldom nos belong tamen quam teres nostrum basium"

Taunt the rain to drown August and everything after

Our teeth were grinding and our bodies unwinding
Dreaming of snowflakes in little glass domes
Hitting the heads of mortality and the unknown
Two made it whole – yet two stole a soul
Dancing silently while curled up in solitude
Restless feet shaking our heads

"Quam seldom nos belong tamen quam teres nostrum basium"

Demanding the change to hypnotize September’s wake

Our feet were muddy and our belly were hungry, so I made a meal
Out of delusion and the indifferent dead driving contusions
It came to me then that you’re my season and I didn’t even know it
Blinded by a closed caption in my heart,
I know I could’ve better shown it ~
I know I could’ve better shown it ~
I know I could’ve better shown it ~

"Quam seldom nos belong tamen quam teres nostrum basium"

Allow the rust to consume October’s mistake

Our engines demanded attention and we saw white
I was out of my mind and out of my head,
There were bells, burns of light, and belly-aches
Drifting in space with noticeable spaces of discontent
But you took my hand and led me back in
Closed caption still in my heart ~
You’re going to heal, she said
Like a feather in your lungs
Tickling your vocal gestures

You crack a smile and it becomes obvious… here comes the sun ~

"Quam seldom nos belong tamen quam teres nostrum basium"
