Instructional Observations
You did some nice work by having them listen to the primary line for balance.
The prep beat at the beginning needs to be more convincing: they are a little unsure,
which is why first note is not together.
Utilize more of the horizontal plane to get the richness of sound you want to achieve.
It is good that you want them to think about phrasing and intonation. Now, be ready to
follow through with that even more: focus energy on that aspect and have them show
you they can play the phrases the way you would like.
You have a very positive demeanor with the students and they are working for you, even
though it is one day before February break.
There was a nice balance of playing through large sections of the piece and isolation of
smaller portions. You did not do a lot of sectional work, but that is fine considering the
circumstances of todays rehearsal.
