Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
Kaitlynn Akers
EDUC 201
InTASC Standard:
Standard #3: Learning Environments: The teacher works with others to create environments that
support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active
engagement in learning, and self motivation. (InTASC, 2011)

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my EDUC 201 course during the fall semester of 2014, I completed a revised brochure
for our community childrens museum. The brochure people received when entering the Muncie
Childrens Museum was cluttered and written in a serif font that made it hard for some people to read. I
revised it so that: children grades kindergarten and up could read it with ease, it was less cluttered, and
easier to read.

Analysis of What I Learned:

While working to create the new brochure that was more appealing I worked alongside my classmates
and collaborated putting their ideas and suggestions into this new brochure. In creating this new brochure
we made the childrens museum more appealing to the community. The childrens museum is a positive
learning environment that could encourage positive socialization, active engagement in learning, and
social interaction, if only the people in the community would go. The old brochure was a barrier
preventing people from seeing the possibilities.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

InTASC Standard:
My competence in this standard is proven by the fact that I created a gateway that support
individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in
learning, and self motivation more appealing. I was committed to working with learners, colleagues,
families, and communities to establish a new door to a positive and supportive learning environment. I
had to collaborate with my colleagues and members of the community associated with the museum to
make their first impression better for the people who chose to come to their museum. In doing this I came
to understand how to open doors and opportunities to parents, learners, and the community.
