Lesson Sequence:
Connections to Prior Knowledge/ Building Background Information:
Links to students background experiences- We will talk about practicing writing our numbers in kindergarten and
first grade and talk about some of the different ways we have shown our numbers.

Links to Prior Learning- We will begin by discussing some of the different strategies we have used when it comes to
identifying different number forms. We will go over the vocabulary and what each form means.

Lesson Sequence:
We will start our lesson by going over the objective for the day. We will then briefly go over the different forms we
have been writing our numbers in and the different ways they look. We will be using our base ten blocks and
whiteboard to practice showing our numbers in base 10 form as well as standard form. Once we have gone over a
couple I will pass out the chart and a pair of dice to partners. We will do the first two together, and then in pairs they
will begin. They will be rolling the dice, writing the number in standard form, base ten form, and expanded form.
They will take turns with their partners either stating the number they rolled or listening to their partner. After the form
is filled out we will go over a couple answers with the entire class. Once we are finished with that I will pass out their
independent practice, which will also serve as their ticket out. It is a half sheet with the number written in standard
form in the middle, their job is to rewrite it in the other forms requested. This will be collected on their way out to
recess in order for me to do a quick evaluation.

*This skill was taught a couple weeks ago so the purpose of this lesson is to review and make sure they still
comprehend the skill in order to be ready for the district benchmark.
