Mahasthan, the present name of the ancient city

known as "Pundurunagar (Pundranagar)", is situated in


Shibganj, Bogra. About four thousand years ago
Pundurunagar was an affluent and strong settlement.
The mighty Maurya, Gupta and other rulers had their

provincial capital there. Even the initial capital of the


Pal dynasty was Pundurunagar
Several ancient inscriptions belonging to the Maurya,

Gupta, Pal and Sen dynasties reveal the existence of


the Pundurus in the Pundurunagar.

Behular Bashor ghar


Gokul Medh an excavated mound in the village of
Gokul under Bogra , about two km southwest of
MAHASTHAN citadel. It is popularly known as
Behula-Laksindarer Basar-ghar, or the nuptial room
of the traditional heroine and hero of a popular
ballad, Behula and Laksindar.
It is also associated with the angry snake godess
MANASA. Excavations in 1934-36 by NG Majumdar
revealed a gigantic shrine or stupa plinth built in
the terraced cellular style of construction.
it consists of 12 shallow holes with a larger hole in
the centre containing a tiny gold leaf. This indicates
the shrine was a Siva temple.

Moinamati
They are famous historical and archeological places

around Comilla. These are a series of hillocks, where


the Northern part is called Moinamoti and the Southern
part is called Lalmai; and Shalbon Bihar is in the Middle
of Lalmai and Moinamoti, which the was established in
8th century by King Buddadev. Salban Vihara.
In the middle of the Mainarnati-Lalmai hill range
consists of 115 cells, built around a spacious courtyard
with cruciform temple in the centre facing its only
gateway complex to the north resembling that of the
Paharpur Monastery, about 5 km north of Salban Vihara
inside the Comilla Cantonment is a picturesque
Buddhist establishment. Here three stupas are found
side by side representing the Buddhist "Trinity" or three
jewels i.e.
