Scope and Delimitation

This study deals with the reduction of HDPE plastic products by production of MoMWCNT reinforced corrosion-resistant and strength-enhanced coating. Molybdenum is used
because of its strength and corrosion-resistant properties.
Experimentation was divided into six parts: (1) catalyst production using Ammonium
molybdate, ethylene glycol, magnesium nitrate, and nickel nitrate; (2) production of MWCNT
from HDPE; (3) purification of produced MWCNT; (4) synthesis of Molybdenum- MWCNT;
(5) addition of Mo-MWCNT to the epoxy; and (6) evaluation of the effectiveness of MoMWCNT epoxy coating through strength and corrosion test.
The catalyst was prepared based on ratios adopted from past researches. Cost and
availability of reagents were considered in the selection of catalyst. HDPE was chosen due to its
high MWCNT yield.
Purification of MWCNT was carried out to compare its effectiveness with the unpurified
MWCNT produced. This is to test whether the catalyst aids in the corrosion-resistance and
strength-enhancement properties of the epoxy coating.
In the synthesis of Mo-MWCNT, deionized water was used since both were insoluble in
water. After which, oven drying for 48 hours was employed in division.
The Mo-MWCNT was added to the epoxy, and was mixed until a homogeneous solution
was achieved. The effectiveness of the Mo-CNT epoxy was evaluated by comparison with the
control. Electrochemical polarization using sodium chloride and calcium hydroxide as the test
solution and gravimetric methods using hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid as the test solution
were operated at room temperature and atmospheric pressure to test the epoxys corrosion
resistant properties. ___ hardness test was also utilized to test its tensile strength and hardness.

The temperatures used in experimentation were based on related researches. Also,

gaseous by-products generated during experimentation were unaccounted.
