The document provides step-by-step instructions for using the Combine feature in SolidWorks to create a nut and bolt assembly. It describes:
1) Inserting a bolt and nut part into a sketch, inserting a plane, and moving/copying the bolt to the plane.
2) Mating the bolt to the plane and the bolt shaft to the nut to position them correctly.
3) Using the Combine feature set to Subtract to remove the bolt from the nut, leaving a threaded internal profile.

Explore the Combine Feature in Objectives SolidWorks NUT & BOLT How to use the Combine feature in SolidWorks Insert Parts Move Copy Mate Combine - Subtract
Step 1. Inserting a part into another
sketch To insert a part into another sketch you need to go into the command manager Insert Part then pick the part you want to insert In this case we will pick Bolt double click on blot It will then show itself as a shaded item until you release it into the sketch
Step 1. Inserting a part into another
sketch
Be careful not to place them together as it is
better to keep them separate at this stage Now you need to insert a plane
Step 2 How to insert a Plane
Click on the plane you want to offset in this case it is the front plane
Go to Reference Geometry and pick the option Plain
Step 1 How to insert a Plane cont.
The plains menu bar appears on the left hand side of the screen and you will be able to see the proposed new plain Here is where you can give it the parameters like distance away from original plane and angle of plain etc. When happy with the position click on the green tick mark at the menu bar.
Step 3. Move/copy and Mate
Now you want to go into move/copy and you achieve this by going into the command manager Insert Features Move/copy The parameters menu appears for the move/copy on the left hand side and solid works is requesting what you want to move as bodies to move is highlighted in BLUE Click on the Bolt Then you need to go to mate
Step 3. Move/copy and Mate cont.
When you click on mate you want to mate the bolt to the inserted plane then click ok The second mate is to mate the two shafts of the bolt and nut this will perfectly place the nut on the threaded bolt
Step 4. Combine - Subtract
The next step is to go to the combine feature this can be found in the command manager tool bar- InsertFeatures- Combine Within the parameters of the combine feature you have three options Add Subtract Common
You need to highlight the subtract
option You need to subtract the Bolt away from the Nut you will be left with the Bolt and it will be threaded Click ok and you will be left with the Bolt threaded
