Early Life

A.Early Life
Quotes: "Actor and comedian James Eugene Carrey was born on January 17,
1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Carrey got his start with a spot doing
stand-up at a Toronto comedy club when he was just 15 years old. By 1979,
he had left the factory job as a janitor he had taken in 1978 to help support
his family and was making his living as the opening act for successful comics
Buddy Hackett and Rodney Dangerfield."
Comment: Jim Carreywas born into a poor family and his family members had
no jobs. This made work extremely hard to achieve what he has.

Quotes: "Carrey's tendency to act goofy began while he was only a babe in a
cradle---or high chair, anyway. As a child Carrey would frequently shun food,
and instead of eating he would make faces while sitting in his high chair. He
often had his family laughing uproariously. Later, as he learned what tricks
his extremely flexible body could perform, family and friends would line the
living room to catch his "act.""

Comment: Jim Carrey as a child was always trying to make other people
laugh. He had a natural talent and used it to make him successful.

energy. Naturally, he would often turn to a fellow student to try out his
"material." One day, a teacher told him: "If you think you're so funny, Mr.

Carrey was only too happy to oblige. He went in front of the class and
delivered a wonderfully funny and complete act. The class loved it. That was
the last time the teacher ever asked him to perform."
Comment: As a kid he always wanted to maje other poeple laugh. Jim Carrey
wanted to he used this determination to make him successful.

Carrey didn't let this stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a

Paraphrasing: As a teen he was homeless and his father lost his job.
Comment: Carrey was upset that he had to do so much work. His entire
family was working and were still homeless. This adversity gave him the
oppertunity to be successful.

How he Overcame Adversity

made-for-television movie called Introducing...Janet. Carrey's appearances on
