RE: Assault against police, arson, endangerment of human life
Your immediate attention is requested!
Dear Deputy Mayor Baruch-Ron, Tel-Aviv District Psychiatrist, and Tel-Aviv District Commander:
I am informed that yesterday, around 2:00pm, a street dweller assaulted a policeman at the
OccupyTLV camp. The perpetrator is the same person, whom I reported to you 10 days ago,
regarding an arson incident and endangerment of human life. [1]
Yesterday, I arrived on the scene after the incident, while police were still there. I explained to
Policeman Ben Meltzer that the same person had been recently reported in an arson and human life
endangerment incident, that the person is often under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and asked
that due measures be taken through the welfare authorities, the District Psychiatrist, or Israel Police.
I also stated that failure to duly address the situation amounts to denial of protection of the
fundamental security of people who live in the camp.
Policeman Meltzer responded that it was not the case, since those living in the camp do so of their
own choice.
I asked him, if the case had been that I had rented an apartment across the street, and a neighbor had
perpetrated arson against my apartment, he would have answered the same way.
Policeman Meltzer answered, it is not the same.
I request that you take the appropriate actions to duly protect the life and security of those living in
the camp.
Please inform me of any measures taken by your offices.
