Texts: John 14:15-21

Topic: Yielding to Christ

Thesis: When believers yield to Christ,

in trust and obedience, they experience
the fullness of the Holy Spirit

Title: Trust and Obey

1. Don’t Doubt, even if you Don’t Feel.

“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world

cannot receive, because it seeth him not,
neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

(Joh 14:17 AV)

2. Don’t Despair, even in the Darkness.

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will

come to you.”

(Joh 14:18 AV)

3. Trust and Obey.

“He that hath my commandments, and

keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he
that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and
I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

(Joh 14:21 AV)

“In surrender is obedience; in
obedience is surrender.”

James McConkey
Trust and Obey

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,

What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Words, John Sammis, 1887

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

This song gives a simple, clear explanation of living the

Christian life. The title expression was used in a testimony meeting,
following an evangelistic crusade in Brockton, Massachusetts, by Dwight
L. Moody.
A young man stood to speak, and it soon became clear he
knew little Christian doctrine. But he finished by saying, “I’m not quite Music, Daniel Towner, 1887

sure—but I’m going to trust, and I’m going to obey.”

Daniel Towner, who was in the meeting, jotted down the words,
and gave them to John Sammis, who developed the lyrics from them.
