REFLECTION OF COURSEWORK
2
I have learned a lot of things through the classes we have taken
at St. Mary. My classroom has evolved and I have made several
improvements after taking time to research. Some of my favorite
changes I have made in my classroom include the usage of Edmodo,
trying out more math projects, and Kahoot.
First, I did some research to see how the usage of Edmodo would
affect homework scores and turn-in rates. I was able to find that using
Edmodo for submittals decreased the amount of late work I received in
my classroom. The kids also thought Edmodo was cool because it
looked like Facebook and it was easy to use. Middle schoolers love
using their computers and this was another way to get on their level.
Using Edmodo is something I will continue to do in the future.
Secondly, I am now trying to use more math projects. Some of
my research involved using different assessment methods and the kids
really like doing projects. Some of these projects include final four
brackets, stick bridges, towers, and scale drawings. Some of my kids
who bomb tests were able to increase their grades with these projects.
It was good overall; they enjoyed it and it helped them.
Lastly, I learned all about Kahoot. Kahoot has been great in my
classroom for test and quiz review. The kids really get into it, as its a
competition between all of them. It has made it more interesting when

I offer some kind of prize for the winners. I love seeing my kids get into
lessons and it seems like they care much more about their math
content when I do everything I can to make it fun.
Part of being a good teacher is finding the best way to reach the
students. Making math fun and interesting is not always an easy task,
but through my

coursework and research, I have found a lot of ways to better my
classroom. I am so thankful that we learned how to conduct this
research and I plan to keep doing AR projects with my classes in the
future.
