My Philosophy of

Teaching Science
I believe:
That students should be encouraged to ask questions and
observe the world around them
Students should be exposed and allowed to explore literacy
and other science materials at their instructional reading
level
That collaborating students in pairs or groups provides
beneficial academic opportunities as well as develops vital
teamwork skills
That students need to be assured that their reasoning and
ideas are valid, valued and worth looking into
That giving students experiences and allowing them to see
patterns through demonstrations and hands on activities
helps to turn those patterns into scientific theories
That students need opportunities to make predictions and
observations that are meaningful in order to develop and
draw inferences from experiments and demonstrations
Teachers can help encourage a productive discussion and
explanation by asking students to elaborate and explain
their theories by pointing to evidence and using their
experiences and prior knowledge
