FUNCTIONAL GROUP ID =

IC

This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Rail
Advance Interchange Consist Transaction Set (418) for use within the context of an Electronic
Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to transmit advance
information on equipment being interchanged to a connection rail carrier, from a consignor or to
a consignee.
The consist will be transmitted in the standing order of the Train or Interchange cut, from engine to
caboose or end of train device. End of Train devices should be reported using the equipment initial
and number conventions.
Train consist and interchange cuts must be timely and complete. The timeliness of train consists must
be agreed upon by the participating carriers. The timeliness of interchange cuts must be such that the
transmission precedes the actual interchange event.
All revisions to a previously transmitted 418 will be retransmitted in their entirety.
Transmissions of this transaction set will be limited to one train consist or one interchange cut.
It is highly recommended to report EOTs on the consist due to the Car Service Rules related to
charges for EOTs on foreign lines.
