Drumming Bands
I am a currently a member of two drumming group, Dezibel a street
drumming group based in Aberdeen and Rhythm Wave a samba percussion
club based in Perth. With both bands I perform at various fairs, parades,
fund-raisers and festivals. Both bands have become a tight group of
friends which is essential to working together to create a high quality
sound for our audiences. In both bands I am a repiniquie player and hold
an essential position in the band. Being a part of Rhythm Wave has
improved my drumming technique greatly and allowed me to become a
far more confident player and performer. My personal highlights whilst
playing as a part of Rhythm Wave has been performing at Belladrum
festival and Glastonbury festivel, two experiences that I will not forget. I
have now become the president of UHI Global Percussion Club or
Rhythm Wave as we are better known.
Work History
Cool School Samba Instructor Current
I was given the opportunity to become a samba instructor with Perth&Kinross
Council's Cool School. Children around the Perth & Kinross area are involved
in learning samba based drum and percussion patterns and learning songs in
languages such as Portuguese, English and Gaelic. I work with the other
instructors to teach, set up and look after the children. This was a great
opportunity for me as it was a job directly related to my current degree and I
enjoyed it immensely. The job has allowed me to gain confidence in my
abilities to work in a teaching role and in my own drumming abilities.
On first joining Centreglobal I was given the position of glass collector. This
involved working in both That Bar and The Loft nightclub. My duties included
collecting used glasses and rubbish, stacking the glasses correctly and
washing them. I then distributed the clean glasses throughout the bar and
club. After a few weeks I was given the opportunity to do my bar training and
I then joined as a member of the bar staff. My duties included serving
customers in a friendly manner, keeping the work area clean, handling
money and cleaning at the end of the night.
Work Experience
5Primary School Music Teacher
Mr Adrian Smith - 2008
During school I was given the opportunity to spend a week as a music
teacher. My responsibilities included assisting the children with difficult
rhythms and notes, reading song sheets, setting up the class and then
tidying up at the end of the lesson. This allowed me to learn about
responsibility and patience while working with the children and will
definitely help me in the future as this experience showed me how to
communicate positively with others.
