ACTIVITY

1. Review uppercase and lowercase letters as you show the

transparencies on an overhead projector. Name a letter
and ask a student volunteer to find it on the transparency.
2. Cut the Baby Duck Cards apart and give one or two to each
student. Point out that the letter is right side up when the duck
is right side up. Have students color their cards as desired.
3. Collect the colored Baby Duck Cards and use them for these
activities:

Give each student one Baby Duck Card.

You will need to set some letter pairs (the
uppercase letter and the corresponding
lowercase letter) aside.
Let students circulate around the classroom
and look for their letter partners. For
example, the student with the B card should
look for the student with the b card.
Play the game again with different cards.

Cover a table with butcher paper.

Sort out the cards that show uppercase
letters, scatter them on the covered table,
and glue them down.
Shuffle and stack the remaining Baby Duck
Cards (lowercase letters).
Let student pairs take turns working at the
table. The students should place each
lowercase letter card from the stack on the
corresponding uppercase letter.

EXTENSION
Let students use sets of Baby Duck Cards to play Concentration or other matching games in
which they match an uppercase letter to its corresponding lowercase letter.
