Dear Administrators:
As a full-time commuter student here at Lewis University, I am writing today to express my most
sincere concern regarding the amount of, and the size of, commuter parking lots here at Lewis.
After completing two full academic years here at the university, I have often been overwhelmed
with frustration when it comes to searching for a parking spot when I arrive for my daily classes.
It seems that in order to obtain a parking spot that is relatively close to the building, you must
arrive to school at least an hour before your first class.
Certainly, student attendance and participation is amongst your top goals as an administration.
However to ensure that students are punctual to class, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the
administration to provide students with the appropriate means to assure punctuality? Speaking
from personal experience, there have been numerous occasions where I have been tardy to class
due to my inability to find a parking spot that is close to a building in which I attend class. I
understand that students must leave their place of residence with ample time to locate a parking
spot, however accidents do happen and with the high population of commuters here at Lewis,
traffic is unavoidable. In an effort to fix the issue at hand, I am proposing a resolution that would
entail an expansion of current parking lots where the appropriate amount of land is unused; with
available funding of course.
It seems that this issue will only get worse as time goes on. Since I began my education at Lewis,
there has been a significant increase in the total student population, and it is only expected to
continue growing. Due to the drastic and inevitable increase of students, the logical solution
would be to accommodate this growing population by expanding the available parking lots that
the school currently has. In addition, Lewis has consistently raised the fee for commuter parking
passes for each semester, making it difficult to afford for working, struggling college students. In
order to ensure that each paying student has the ability to obtain a parking spot within a
reasonable distance from campus building, I believe it would be in the administration's best
interest to review current situation of the campus parking lots.
The solution to this issue seems quite simple to attain. I believe Lewis should use some of the
remaining funds that are available and invest in a way to expand the current parking lots on
campus, and possibly build new ones. I hope that with careful consideration you reach a unified
solution that works to benefit all students and faculty here at Lewis.
Thank you for your time,
Anthony DAndrea
