Set Induction:
Today is the last day of our
badminton unit. We have gone
over badminton forehand and
backhand swing. This sport is
very complex as it requires a
high level of hand-eye
coordination.

Purpose:
Badminton is a sport that
requires a lot of skill hand-eye
coordination, agility, and
accuracy, and precision. To be
competent, one needs to
practice efficiently and
effectively.

Lesson Core - Task 1:

Station target challenge
Students have had trouble with
striking the birdie towards a
certain direction so to help with
that, the students will practice

hitting the birdies into a hula

hoop approx. 5 feet away.
Students will line up behind the
cones, and on my say, will strike
the birdies into the hula-hoop.
The birdies will be placed beside
them and they will grab one
birdie at a time. Once all birdies
have run out, students will pick
the birdies up and place them
back. On my go, they will
continue the activity.
If the students are competent
enough with the forehand (at
least 50% success), then I will
have them perform the
backhand swing.
Demonstration Plan:
I will demonstrate the forehand
swing slowly going over each
step. I will attempt to strike the
birdie into the hula-hoop. Then I
will have 2-3 students
demonstrate, one at a time.
They will attempt to strike the
birdie into the hula-hoop.
Questions to Check
Understanding
What are the cues for the
forehand swing? 1) pinch birdie,
2) pull back, 3) swing and strike
(with center), 4) follow through.
With what part of the racquet do
you strike? The center.

Lesson Core - Task 2:

Badminton team challenge
There will be 2 teams. I will
divide them up by numbers. One
team on one side of the court
and the other team on the other
side of the court. There is a
midline that the students cant
cross. There will be 3 hula-hoops
on each side lined up one in front
of the other. The closest hulahoop will be placed
approximately 5 feet away from
the midline. It is worth 1 point.
The furthest hula-hoop is 3
points. The hula-hoop in between
is 2 points. The goal is for the
students to strike the birdies into
the hula-hoops. Keep in mind
that students must space
themselves for enough room. If a
student is intentionally hitting
birdies at others students or is a
safety issue, then that student
will sit out.

I will demonstrate by striking the

birdie into one of the hula-hoops.
I will tell them that each hulahoop is worth 1, 2, or 3 points
respectively. I will show them
what not to do either.
Questions to Check
Understanding
How many points are each hulahoop? 1, 2 and 3 hula-hoops.
Do we hit other students with the
birdies? No, and if anyone does
then they will sit out for the
remainder of the activity.
Adaptations
Regression: The hula-hoops will
be moved closer.
Progression: The hula-hoops will
be moved further.

Review:
Badminton is a challenging sport
at first so I want to assure they
know the physical aspect of the
skills learned during the unit and
the cues associated with those
skills. I will review the cues and
