Crusades Webquest Reflection

The Crusades webquest of my desire to design and teach an entire lesson centered on
technology. Teaching about the Crusades also allowed me to practice teaching students about a
controversial issue. I began the class by connecting what the main goal of the Crusades was to
what is still going on in the Middle East today. The students had been doing a lot on current
events so talking about todays current issues in that area transitioned perfectly into my lesson.
Each student had their own computer and where asked to work on their webquest individually.
My job was to monitor each students progress and to measure their understanding as they went
along. Students were asked to answer the evaluation questions in a google doc and then share
them with me for assessing. I tried to mix in primary and secondary sources as well as sources
from different perspectives, i.e. Catholics, Jews, and Muslims. This lesson was almost entirely
student-centered as they were able to go through the webquest at their own pace and ask
questions and do additional research on anything they wanted to know more about. I did find it
difficult to make modifications in this lesson for students with 504s other than checking in with
them more frequently to make sure they were remaining on task.
