Kannapolis Police Officer Completes Traffic Crash Reconstruction Training
Officer M. Dale Burris has completed the required training for
certification as a traffic crash reconstruction expert. Officer Burris has been employed by the Kannapolis Police Department since 2011 and began his traffic crash investigation training in October of 2012. In order to become a traffic crash reconstruction expert, candidates must successfully complete 160 hours of prerequisite training consisting of Introduction to Traffic Crash Investigation (40 hours), At-Scene Traffic Crash Investigation (40 Hours), and Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation (80 Hours). Upon being accepted into the Traffic Crash Reconstruction program, Officer Burris had to complete an additional 80 hours of classroom and field training consisting of:
Performing a variety of trigonometric calculations;
Demonstrating a working knowledge of Plane Geometry; Preparing Graph Vector Sum Analysis; Interpreting vehicle behaviors during and after a crash; Determining Principle Direction of Force and explaining its effect on Occupant Kinematics; and
Assessing vehicle damage
Officer Burris is assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, serving as a Patrol Officer on Patrol Squad A.
