Volunteers Needed at UNFs Ogier Gardens
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., February 11, 2015 The Frederick & Ophelia
Tate Ogier Gardens, located at the University of North Florida, is in
need of student volunteers. Volunteers are greatly needed to assist in
up keeping the Gardens and taking care of its produce.
The volunteer days for the 2015 spring semester are on Tuesdays from
9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and
then 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the same day. These opportunities are weather
permitting, and no sign up is necessary to volunteer. The Gardens also
provides fresh produce for all their volunteers for their contribution.
Students should bring water, sunscreen, and gloves to the Gardens if
they want to volunteer. Close-toed shoes are highly recommended as
well. The Gardens staff will assign volunteers a task upon arrival.
Not only do the hours look good on a resume, volunteering at the
Gardens can provide great experiences and education to UNF students.
The Gardens coordinator Kevin Anderson stated, If you want to get
involved in an outdoor activity that you can gain practical knowledge
and experience about living a healthy lifestyle, the Ogier Gardens is
the perfect place to be.
About Ogier Gardens
Established in 2009, the UNF Organic Garden began as a student
initiative and was made possible by a generous donation from Bruce
Ogier. What began with six raised beds next to the Wildlife Sanctuary
has grew into fifteen over the spring of 2012. In the Fall of 2012, our
little garden expanded into a diverse, one acre production on the
north side of campus.
The Frederick and Ophelia Tate Ogier Gardens will serve as a living
laboratory for students to explore multiple disciplines. Programs strive
to promote student health and wellness through outdoor recreation &
experiential learning. UNF will serve as a model for other non-land
grant universities incorporating experiential learning on farms or with
gardens.

An incredible team of student staff & volunteers maintain the Ogier

Gardens. Produce cultivated by student staff will be sold to the Osprey
Caf and featured at UNFs Market Day.
