Managing the Different Generations

Managing the Different Generations

First step to making generational diversity work is to

understand what motivates members of different
generations

Provide a benefit package that reflects the priorities of all

generations
Train employees on generational characteristics
Clearly define and communicate company policies and
expectations
Utilize multiple types of communication
Use multiple training styles
Treat all employees as valued team members
Acknowledge the experience of mature workers, while
respecting the talents of newer workers

Managing the Different Generations

Identify what the four different

generations are

Draw strengths from each generation

Adapt your management style for each

generation

Accept what you cannot change

Scenerio

If you are an older worker in the

generation of traditionalists or
boomers how would you react to
working for someone much younger
than you?
If you were a manager how would you
handle this situation, if the older
workers had a problem reporting to
someone much younger than them?

Conclusion
Get to know your employees
Do some research to understand the
differences in the generational gap
The better you understand each
generation the more effectively you will
be able to communicate with them
