Types of Work You May Consider:


Higher Education Administration: Focused more on working for students, in areas including
higher education policy, budget and finance, and curricular development-Michigan State

Student Affairs: Focused on working directly with students in areas including advising, residence
life and housing, student activities, Greek affairs, orientation, multicultural services, student
development, career exploration, and leadership development- Michigan State UniversityDepartment of Educational Administration
Advancement: Advancement is a strategic, integrated method of managing relationships to
increase understanding and support among an educational institution's key constituents, including
alumni and friends, government policy makers, the media, members of the community and
philanthropic entities of all types-Council for the Advancement and Support of Education

Tips/Suggestions:
-Set up a meeting with a student affairs/advancement professional at your institution. Come
prepared with questions about their education/career path.
-Attend CASE/NASPA/ACPA or any other professional conference. There are many scholarships
available for undergraduate students to minimize the cost of attending.
-Ask about auditing or enrolling in a Masters level course in your area of interest.
