Poseidon; an important god who was god over the sea. After the gods defeated the Titans,
the world was divided into three. Those three were Zeus (god of the sky), Poseidon(god of the
sea), and Hades(god of the Underworld). They drew straws to get what they would rule over.
Poseidon was a god who controlled the sea, over half the world. Even though I do not believe in
these gods, this shows the importance of Poseidons job.
Poseidon, also known as Neptune to the Romans, is the son of Cronus and Rhea. He had
siblings that include Hades, Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and Zeus. His siblings were not all born from
the same mother and father. Poseidon did have many children, as well. Some of his children are
Theseus, Triton, Polyphemus, Belus, Agenor, Neleus, and Atlas. Poseidons wife was Amphitrite,
Daughter of the Titan, Oceanus.
Poseidon was worshiped by many, just like the other gods. He rules over the sea, earthquakes,
storms, and horses. He is often seen in pictures with fish, dolphins, horses and bulls. one of his
most known symbols is his trident. It was believed that he welded this trident, and when he
slammed it on the ground, he could create huge earthquakes. This is where he got the nickname
Earth-shaker.
Poseidon, since he is the god of the sea, lives in his own palace, made of gems and coral,
located in the ocean. Before he got his own place, he lived on mount Olympus, with the other
gods. His main means of transportation is a chariot pulled by horses. Poseidon assisted the
Greeks in the Trojan War. When his brother Zeus told him to withdraw from the battlefield, he

had to obey. Since he was moody by nature, he was very unstable, causing hatred to others very
easily.
Poseidons importance on nature is quite important. He controls the sea, storms, and
earthquakes. He also created many animals. Poseidon is a god that is in rule over many things.
He is one the the Big three. Poseidon importance is still shown today.
