Dear Shawna,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive the UC Santa Cruz
Undergraduate Dean's Award. This award is in recognition of your achievements,
accomplishments and the contributions you will make to our community.
With the Undergraduate Dean's Award, you are eligible to receive $20,000 paid evenly over
four years. The intent of this scholarship is to help offset the non-resident supplemental tuition
for students who may not otherwise be able to attend. In order to receive the award, you must
accept your offer of admission by completing all steps on my.ucsc.edu no later than the May 1,
2015 deadline. Shortly after this deadline, you will receive instructions on how to accept or
decline the award in the portal. You must maintain all of your conditions of admission, be
classified as a non-resident for tuition purposes, enroll full-time and maintain satisfactory
academic progress to maintain eligibility.
As a top scholar, we encourage you to review the array of research opportunities available across
all areas of study, including engineering, the arts, humanities, social sciences and physical and
biological sciences. UC Santa Cruz has a long standing history of supporting research at the
undergraduate level. Actively engaging in research while you are an undergraduate can greatly
enhance your academic experience as well as your future opportunities for employment and
graduate school. UC Santa Cruz also has funding opportunities for those students who wish to
pursue their own research project. For more information please visit Undergraduate Research
Opportunities.
A common theme among UC Santa Cruz alumni is how much they treasured the beauty and
natural setting of this remarkable campus and the richness it brought to their educational
experiences. We look forward to perhaps welcoming you to similarly immerse and revel in the
beauty of this place and continue the quest to change the world.
If you have any questions about the award, please feel free to contact Apr Medina, Associate
Director, Financial Aid and Scholarship Office directly at 831-459-4196 or apri@ucsc.edu.
Please accept our congratulations on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the Santa Cruz
campus. We hope to welcome you at UC Santa Cruz in fall 2015.
Sincerely,

Richard Hughey
