Genetics After Mendel

Incomplete Dominance
Not all traits are purely dominant or purely recessive
If neither allele is controlling, a blending of the two traits can occur.
This is called incomplete dominance.
The resulting genotype is heterogeneous and does not express either of the
characteristics
Eg. White (rr) snapdragon flowers and Red (RR) snapdragon flowers are homozygous.
If these two flowers are crossed, the results with produce a heterozygous (RW) flower.
Since there isnt enough of the red pigments, the flower appears pink.

When combining alleles these heterogeneous alleles, it is possible for dominant and
recessive genes to appear again.

Co- dominance
both alleles for traits are dominant and therefore both are expressed
the genotype is heterozygous
Ex. A black rooster is crossed with a white hen,
a black and white checkered hen appears
