RE-BELLO

Re-Bello literally translates to the Revolution of beauty. This is an Italian based clothing manufacturing
company that deals in eco-friendly and recyclable fashion. Using 100% traditional cotton is very damaging
to the environment. For 2.5% of farmed area, cotton plantations consume 24% of insecticides and 11% of
pesticides. 2,720 L and of water and 123 g of chemical fertilizer are needed to produce one t-shirt, the same
amount is enough to quench the thirst of a person for 3 years. In fact, the irrigation of cotton fields in
Russia is one of the major causes for the desiccation of the Aral lake from 68,000 m2 in 1960 to 6,800 in
2007. These figures put forth the alarming nature of ecological impact that our practices today have, just
how unsustainable they really are.
Materials used for the production of Re-Bello, textiles and garments are organic cotton, bamboo,
eucalyptus and upcycled wool. It is sustainable to use these materials because they eucalyptus and
bamboo grow very fast and require no irrigation (just rainwater is sufficient), have a high yield and require
no chemicals. Organic cotton on the other hand uses no chemicals and a reduced water consumption.
Upcycled wool uses recycled wool. These materials are produced in Europe and Asia. The benefits of these
materials to the consumer are that the fabric spun from them is warm in winter and fresh in summer,
extremely soft, highly breathable and comfortable and has a reduced risk for irritation.
The production largely happens in Italy, Greece and Turkey, keeping the shipping mileage to a minimum.
The benefits to the environment of these fabrics are that they use no chemicals, are biodegradable, have
high yields, reduced CO2 emissions, no GMO used and reduced water consumption. Other than the fiber
extraction process, which is only mildly damaging, the entire supply chain has a zero damaging effect on
the environment.
Re-Bello has various certifications under its belt, like the Global Organic Textile Standard, Organic Blended
Content Standard, Fair Wear Foundation, Confidence in Textiles, TENCEL and the CARDATO Regenerated.
Being CARDATO Regenerated CO2 Neutral certified means that all its wool is produced in the Prato district
of Italy, is 100% recycled (though the standard requires only 70%) and has accounted for its CO2 emissions.
