Technical Description (Router)

A router is a small, special-purpose device or computer used to connect two or more networks.
They forward data packets between networks. Without routers, it would be impossible to connect

to the internet
The router was invented by William Bill Yeager in 1981 and it was perfected by Cisco. Routers
are of different types and have different features depending on where they are used. Most home

routers have two antennas; have 4 LAN ports where different computers are connected and one
WAN port where a cable from the internet service provider is connected. The usually have lights
at the front that represent different functionalities.
Business/industrial routers can be larger in size compared to the ones used in homes.
There are different types of routers but they all work the same way. There are wireless routers
and wired routers.
Wireless Routers You can either connect the computer using an Ethernet cable or connect it
wirelessly.
Wired routers You require an Ethernet cable between your computer and the router to use the
router.
