Judd Mahalo

Judd Mahalo is a 22-year-old surfer. His family lives in the United


States in California but Judd is currently studying at Macquarie
University. Judd wants to be actor and director and his dream is to
star in his own directed surf movie. Judd is currently doing a
Bachelor of Arts - media course at Macquarie University to full fill his
dream (Macquarie University, 2014). To fund his university degree
Judd has gone to Sydney Bar School and taken multiple bartending
courses.
After being qualified Judd managed a permanent part time job
working at a bar in CBD called Baxter Inn. Permanent part time
consists of working on average, less than 38 hours per week and
working regular hours per week (Australian Government, n.d.). Judd
works every second night from Monday to Sunday, every week from
5pm to 11pm. Judds parents are helping Judd pay for his education
while Judd pays for his needs and wants such as food and
accommodation and more, Judd is paying for these things because
his parents think its time for him to take responsibility for his
expenses.
Judd is working in the Quinary industry, an industry made up of
domestic services that were once carried out at home (Chapman &
Malcolm, 2013). Skills needed to be a bar tender are: service
orientation skills, time management, social perceptiveness skills, in
high stress situations the ability to remain calm (Mymajors, n.d.).
Other skills include pouring tap beer, pour shots, open and present
wine, mixing drinks (SydneyBarSchool, n.d.), changing a keg and
operating cash register (RSA online guide, 2015).
The roles and responsibilities of a bartender are: public safety and
security, which means knowing relevant equipment, policies and
procedures. Bartenders have to follow their work values: working
friendly in a non-competitive environment, being supportive to other
colleagues, taking responsibility (Mymajors, n.d.), and preparing the
bar with consumables (SydneyBarSchool, n.d.). The location of
Baxter Inn is basement, 152-156 Clarence Street, Sydney NSW
2000.
