Portfolio Reflection Outcome Four

The acronym LEARN (look, elaborate, analyze, revise, new trial) is used as a guide for exploring
this outcome and the impact on the writer. Knowledge, skills and ability (KSA) are used to provide
examples of meeting objectives. Outcome four looks at scholarship for practice which seeks to find
evidence-based research gaps in the prevention and promotion of health in all populations. Medicine is a
process that improves when knowledge is obtained through research and quality assurance is utilized to
improve the skill and ability of nurses providing care to patients. This outcome relates to provision 2 of
the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
This objective has been made clear to this nurse during coursework when required to find research
material to complete assignments. An example of the importance of conducting research rapidly and
assuring that the search results in relevant articles is shown with the critical appraisal worksheet. This
assignment resulted in gathering information and maintaining a record of that information that could be
relevant to a topic of concern.
After obtaining relevant articles that are related to the topic of interest, the nurse should be able to
present the information in a manner that can be understood and used by other healthcare workers.
Providing information can be done in a variety of ways, including policy briefs, lectures, and power point
presentations. The assigned power point was completed with art and graphic displays of data, as well as
an embedded voice-over. Presentations should be interesting enough to hold the attention of the audience
while demonstrating information in a concise manner. Well researched information and interestingly
presented content can lead to improvements in evidence based practice.
