Portfolio Reflection Outcome Five

The acronym LEARN (look, elaborate, analyze, revise, new trial) is used as a guide for exploring
this outcome and the impact on the writer. Knowledge, skills and ability (KSA) are used to provide
examples of meeting objectives. Outcome five looks at the health care environment which calls for the
use of critical thinking and clinical reasoning to propose specific improvements in healthcare. The ability
to discover healthcare trends or issues and use professionally established methods of evaluation to make
improvements is the responsibility of every professional nurse. This outcome relates to provision 6 and
provision 8 of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
This writer has demonstrated proficiency in discovering a community health need and identifying
areas for improvement, accomplished with collaborative leadership. Following the assignment, this writer
analyzed the group process, significant to understanding personal professional development. The ability
to recognize and understand group dynamics, and the nurses role in that dynamic is critical for the
success of future collaborative projects.
Evaluating and understanding ones role in the community change process gives the nurse the
advantage of understanding the process. This understanding is exemplified in the nursings leadership
role assignment. Community nurses have several roles in maintaining the health of the public that call for
understanding the role as related to direct patient care and to that of leading/managing. These roles are
analyzed and reflected upon in the assignment.
