Medium

My choice of medium was photography. Choosing this

medium was hard as I had a lot of passion and drive to
create the short dance film. However I figured that I am
due to stick to what I know at this time, under given
circumstances such as quality or work, assessment and
time. I also considered the fact that Ive always been
passionate about photo-imaging. - creating something
unique through photography. However I am losing the
drive for this medium due to the decreasing importance
or value in true photos and therefore the respect to
professionals within the area.
I decided because of this deteriorating predicament that
I should consider choosing the medium of photography
and re-kindle what value and importance a photo has
and if I cannot prove that simply through any work I do, I
want to prove it to myself.
Concept
This production will explore a dramatic routine adapting
to the genre of dance and drama. It will develop around
the concept of the body and its strong connection to the
emotional state of the mind.
The narrative will focus on a story of a young girl who is
suffering from a deficient sense of self-direction and self-

consciousness due to the society we live in. The

character will seek anxiously for an escape from the
reality that suffocates her. During her escape she will find
herself in a surreal place where she goes on to express
herself through dance.

This concept overall explores two main ideas which

associates with the motifs of fear, beauty, darkness, selfexpression and individuality. Through the narration of this
series I want to establish a connection to the mind by
raising the distressfulness of the character as well as
establishing the physical connection within the dance
routine of expression. This motion of the body created
by the routine will be expressive of the characters
feelings as well as being the main focus of the series
however the overall series will be based on the bodys
physical connection to the emotional state of mind and
how the darkness of society can authenticate the beauty
of expression through the body. This concept arises from
the idea of our social mores where individuals are
trapped under a fake proposition of comfort that should
be replaced with the honest proportion of fear.

Intentions
My intention is to create a product that tells a story in
which specifically broadens and expands the viewers
perception on dance, individuality and social dominance. I
want to do so by using a narrative technique where I can
feature a story of a young woman who suffers from a
deficient sense of self-direction and self-consciousness
caused by society. The story follows her competition of
this reoccurring practice where she ventures into a surreal
like setting. In which I can use as a symbolic contrast to a
realistic setting that symbolises reality - the environment
she is trying to get far away from. The idea of a
reoccurring practice or routine positions the issue based
on my production to have constant nature and at the
same time it signals the same effect on the emotions of my
character. She will then connect to this space though a
surreal transformation in her costume and then once again
through her expressiveness in dance. In this, I will then
explore the element of light usually it too naturally reflect
the darkness of the situation as the setting, editing,
costume, and incorporation of sound will suggest the
beauty within the character. These aspects will be tied up
by the acting, and the cameras composition, angle and
focus further reflecting the bodys physical connection to
the emotional state of mind. Once again such underpinned
elements can enable me to achieve such an impact on
viewers that their understanding and therefore perception

on my productions issues are altered. The final and

revolutionary addition to my production will be the aspect
ratio I want to establish in my work. This will finish off my
production by helping to connect to my intentions. The
emotive motion of the body created by the routine will be
the subject matter of my series yet the concept will be
based on the bodys physical connection to the emotional
state of mind and how the darkness of society can
authenticate the beauty of expression though a routine of
body movement. In saying that, authentically the product
is being created to impose an overall essence on the
power of society, the beauty of dance and reasonings for
individuals. Hopefully I can juxtapose the allure of dance as
well as represent the dark oppressions of society through
my subject/character and create a final product that
impacts on my audience by creating intrigue and
fascination as it takes them through an unfamiliar
experience with this issue, these images and the narrative.
The outcome should follow the purpose of this production
and create open-mindedness to the viewers, overall
impacting on their perception of expressionism in dance,
individuality and the dominating power of society.

Audience
This product will be specifically aimed at a particular
target audience. As much as I believe that anyone in
particular could have their perception of dance,
individuality ad social dominance broadened and
expanded it is unrealistic that anyone and everyone can
see my work however the context of these images will
impact on who sees the series. Therefore the
demographic of my audiences will not associate with
socio economics. However it will associate more with
females then males in which can be depicted by the
typical masculinity values that society holds against men.
This may be the case with some religions or cultures
however it should not impact on the audiences that view
my work. The targeted audiences should have interests
in the performing arts, or visual arts and either admire
those who are active in these areas or are those people
who are active in this area. Their passions will lie with
underestimated beauty of the arts and focus on making
them recognised and worthy. The audiences will either
comply with the passion of performing arts, and/or have
conscious thoughts or opinion on the dominance of
social values It will be specifically seen by those who
either working in the arts, or spend time outside of work
and/or school to contribute their time to watch, work in,
practice or recognise the arts. In saying this, it may be
seen specifically by those who have concerns around
social issues too such as parents, young passionate

individuals, teachers - those who might volunteer there

time in community events for causes that relate to
mental health issues. In which brings me to age, this
product can only be understood by those who have a
some informed idea of what society is, and what it can
do to people especially to the worthiness of individuality.
Therefore people aged between 15-30 are going to be
the specific target audience, ages above and below, will
relate more to admiration for the issues, themes, dance
scene, or possibly the medium of the product. Those
who consume my product will probably not have any
expectation for my work and to a reasonably extent will
not be comparable to other works. However the should
be familiar with the context as the arts, specifically
performing arts can be associated with productions
quite often and the audience may have connected with
such works before. The purpose of this piece is to
broaden and expand the perceptions of dance,
individuality and the power of dominance therefore can
only be considered understandable to those who have
experience in dance, individuality and social dominance,
the impact it has on these specific audiences should
establish an understanding or connection with them
where they consumer of the product can only to relate,
resemble, understand or recognise the motifs of the
product.
