Rights
Unit Summary: Students examine the basic principles of The Bill of Rights. They
identify what each Amendment represents. Along with that students are able to
demonstrate knowledge through discussion with other classmates. Students are
able to make connections as to why certain Amendments went into effect. What are
factors that contributed to the ratification of some bills and the controversial issues
others brought forth? They can answer questions as to why some of these issues
are influenced by personal opinion. Students can make connections within their
community on specific topics that they see relevant. Students complete several
activities to gain the proper knowledge. At the end of the lesson students will have
a debate. The debate will include a case of their choice or made up from a previous
known case. Students can argue or go against an issue and present valid
arguments. After the debate students can see the importance The Bill of Rights
hold. To close up the lesson, students will write an essay explaining how they feel
The Bill of Rights affect citizens.
