Petroleum In

America
By : Zein 5JR

Introduction

Hi my name is Zein and I will be telling you about the

most used energy source in America, Petroleum.
Petroleum is a thick, flammable, yellow-to-black
mixture of gaseous, liquid, and solid hydrocarbons
that occurs naturally beneath the earth's surface.

How does petroleum look like?

How Much Petroleum Is

Used?
In 2011 America consumed 18 million barrels of
Petroleum per day.

How Is Petroleum
Extracted?
Crude oil occur in 'pockets' under the ground.
Sometimes the deposits are found under the sea
bed. Like other deposits, they are extracted by
drilling a hole down through the rocks into the oil.
For undersea deposits, the drills are mounted on a
platform called a drilling rig. The oil is usually
pumped ashore through pipelines.

Pros and Cons About

Petroleum
Pros: 1.Oil has a very high energy density: average 1 kg of burnt
oil gives about 10,000 kcal.
2.It has broad areas of application, from the chemical, transport
and finishing with its use as an energy resource in power plants.
3.Oil extraction is relatively low cost and with a much reduced
physical effort and technical.
Cons:1.It's nonrenewable source of energy.
2.It is a limited resource; we are almost half of the oil reserves of
conventional sources in the world, about two trillion barrels.
3.By extracting and processing, worrying contributes to
environmental pollution, especially in summer.
