PROJECT OVERVIEW
Veterans are very important people in American society and their
commitment to protecting the nation is respected very much. Their service is
thanked by everyone because very few people are willing to make that sort
of commitment and lifestyle. Living in a prosperous and safe nation does not
come easy; it takes brave men and women to keep threats to a minimum.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Although many people appreciate what veterans have done, they do not go
very far in showing their appreciation. It is very important to actually take a
course of action to thank veterans for what they have done throughout their
time served. For that reason we need to make an event at UTD to celebrate,
thank, and honor ours veterans on campus. It is important to recognize them
for what theyve done any time we can.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

In summary here are the reasons to have a veterans day event at UTD
Important to thank veterans for their efforts to keep this country safe.
Not enough people actually show some sort of gratitude.
UTD community needs to include as many people and veterans are an
obvious group.
Active and inactive military members are just as involved and need to
be recognized for that.
Veterans and military members need to know that everyone at UTD
supports them and are here to help them in any way they can just as
they have done for them and the rest of the country, an event like this
one can help enhance that idea.

PROJECT DETAILS
The project goal is to create a partnership between a student organization
and a sponsor from the community in an effort to raise awareness and funds
for a veteran charity. We feel that the ideal partners for this venture are the
Veterans of UT Dallas, Murphy USA, and The Military Order of the Purple
Heart Services Foundation. The organizational hierarchy for the event can be
seen in Figure 1.

Student Organization
There are two student organizations on the University of Texas
at Dallas campus that take an active role in supporting our
Veterans. They are the Veteran Services Center (VSC) and the
Veterans of UT Dallas. Although both organizations would be an ideal choice
to partner with, the Veterans of UT Dallas seems to promote similar views are
more in line with the Veterans Day event that we would like to hold.

Sponsor
We chose Murphy USA to be our sponsor for this event.
Murphy USA is already active in providing funds and
support for varies charities throughout the nation. With the
mission statement to make a positive impact on each and every community
that we serve, Murphy USAs goals are in line with what we hope to achieve.
We will get a signed Letter of Understanding from Murphy USA to get their
commitment in writing (see Appendix One). With a national presence,
Murphy USA is ideal for helping to spread this campaign outside of more than
just the University of Texas at Dallas community.

Charity
The Military Order of the Purple Heart Services Foundation is
an outstanding charity that provides veterans and their
families with assistance in various areas of life. One of the
services that they offer is the Purple Heart Educational
Scholarship program. The Foundation has established
scholarships for students that are pursuing a discipline oriented
towards serving their community. We feel that The Military Order of the
Purple Heart Services would be the ideal charity to help raise funds for.

Event Details
Beginning November 9th-11th, 2015, a booth in the Student Union will be
reserved under the Veterans of UT Dallas organization from 11:00am to
2:00pm. Volunteers from the student organization with remain at the booth
collecting donations from the student body. With every donation, the
donator will receive a button pin as a Thank You. By wearing the pin, they
will help spread awareness throughout the campus. If the donation exceeds
$5.00, the donator will be automatically entered in a raffle for a $50.00
Murphy USA gas card. All profits from the event will be donated to The
Military of the Purple Heart Services Foundation.

Button Design
We wanted the design of the buttons to be simple, yet identifiable. For 2015,
we would introduce these two designs. For following years, more designs
would be added.

BUDGET

The total budget for the 2015 Veterans event would be $127.50. Most event
material is covered free of charge by the University of Texas at Dallas. All
additional costs would be covered by Murphy USA. The breakdown of these
costs can be seen in the following chart.

EVALUATION
Success of our event would be to have one person make a donation to honor
our veterans. Ideal success would include selling out of all buttons and
raising awareness across the whole campus.

FUTURE GOALS
Future goals include hosting this event for more than one year. Having a
number of volunteers willing to donate their time or money to supporting our
veterans. This event has a lot of growth potential with the local community.
Once established, there should be little issue obtaining more sponsors for the
additional support. Since Murphy USA is located nationally, it would be easy
to spread this event onto a national level.
