The Map of Butetown

From the valleys of Wales coal and iron would be transported down the canal
from Merthyr to Melingriffith, to Blackweir and town centre, then on through Butetown
to the sea lock gates.

From across the seven seas

men would navigate their ships to Tiger Bay
On arrival they would check the time by the Pierhead Building clock,
run to get their land pass stamped
then to find a place to stay
“I need to find a bed in a boarding house on Bute Street.
Could you please tell me the way.”
