Universal Design for Learning

Universal design for learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all
people based on scientific insights into how humans learn. Watch the video below to get an overview of

The UDL Guidelines are organized according to the three main principles of UDL that address
representation, expression, and engagement.
Principle 1: Multiple Means of Representation
Provide options for perception, language and symbols, and comprehension.
Principle 2: Multiple Means of Expression
Provide options for physical action, expressive skills and fluency, and executive functions.
Principle 3: Multiple Means of Engagement
Provide options for recruiting interest, effort and persistence, and self-regulation.

Goal of UDL is to build purposeful & motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic & goaldirected learners.
