My family never kept records of ancestors or the history of or family’s roots, but we
vaguely know the origin of our ancestors. My father’s side of the family has connections to
France and my father’s ancestors most likely came from or were near France. Although my
family does not know of records of my family emigrating from France, my father and the rest of
his family are sure that they are of French descent.
‘The national flag of France is known as the “Le drapeau tricolore”, or it is known in
English as the French Tricolor. The French flag is simply three vertical stripes of color that are in
order from left to right: blue, white, and red. The French flag was designed this way during the
French Revolution in the late 1700's for the purposes of white as the traditional color of France
and red and blue from Parisian militia. The World Factbook explains, “the origin of the flag
dates to 1790 and the French Revolution when the “ancient French color" of white was combined
with the blue and red colors of the Parisian militia; the official flag for all French dependent

engineers and amateur musician stationed in Strasbourg in 1792. It was played at a
patriotic banquet at Marscilles, and printed copies were given to the revolutionary forces,
then marching on Paris. They A Paris singing this song, and to it they marched to

La Marseillaise became famously known at the banquet at Marseilles (hence the name) and after
the French Revolution, La Marseillaise became Frances national anthem.
France does not have many policies about becoming a citizen of France and it would not

birth, you may apply for French citizenship if you are over the age of eighteen and when you
have lived in the country for five years. One may also epply for French citizenship if a person
married a French citizen, When one applies for French citizenship, you also apply for BU
citizenship, The process of becoming a French citizen is lengthy and may take up to two years.
One source explains that, “your application will be assessed by the police, mayor's office and

My family is not deeply connected to France or our ancestors, but itis important to know
