DOWNING PLANETARIUM

GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

The Morrison Planetarium has a 75 foot dome.

When the virtual cosmos is projected to its 75 foot
diameter with a tilted 30 degree angle screen, the
dome seems as if it disappears.

The Downing Planetarium contains 74 seats with a

30 foot dome. The shows are run by a Minolta MS-10
star projector and a full dome helispherical mirror
projection system. The system covers the entire
dome with a movie.

The Griffith Observatory has a total of 290 seats

in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium. It is the finest
planetarium in the world. Each of the show is
presented by a live engaging storyteller.

Planetarium shows are fueled by Scientific data

resulting stunning visualizations of the latest findings, discoveries and theories about our Universe.
There area many other places that could be toured
besides the planetarium. Under the same roof
there is also an aquarium, rainforest and natural
history museum. There are events at certain times
that could be explored. (Look at calendar)

The lobby is quite big, it has many photographs.

There is also a mural on the top of the room painted
by Lynette Cook in 2002.
There is a gift shop and a museum in the Downing
Planetarium as well.
The planetarium has public shows on weekends
which started in 2000.

There are three shows Centered in the Universe,

Water is life and Light of the Valkyries. They are
offered 8 times each day on the weekdays and
10 on the weekends. (Note: Planetarium is
closed on Monday) Children at the age of 5 and
under are only admitted to go to the first show on
both weekends and weekdays.
