EDUC 323: Instructional Strategies Summary of Presenter On Tuesday February 17, Dr. Hicks brought up a guess speaker, MISTER David Kelly. Mr. Kelly began by giving the class a brief overview of his background. He has taught at about 3 different schools in Orangeburg District 5 and is a graduate of Claflin Universitys call me MISTER program. He is currently the technology coach for teachers and students a Brookdale Elementary in Orangeburg. Mister Kellys presentation was about teaching with technology and student engagement. He conducted class by giving the entire class a brief overview of a few websites including Kahoot, Mastery connect, and nearpod. These websites were created with intentions to bring the lesson to students, meaning students will be able to see what is on the smartboard using any phone or PC. They include assessments that are built within the lesson that teachers are giving. Also these websites break down student information and responses to questions within the lesson individually and as a group. This provides teachers with information that will quickly allow them to see what they need to reteach or provide further instruction in. While able to share instant feedback with teachers, the websites Mr. Kelly presented, can also show students where they are academically which allows the student to see the biggest areas they need improvement in. Since many schools in Orangeburg are receiving iPods to use during class these websites are great tools for teachers. I believe that I will use these websites in creating student engaging lessons throughout my career. They are colorful, bright, eye catching, and easy to use which are key in engaging anyone. Mr. Kellys presentation made me feel like my teaching career will be a little easier if I am able to master using the teaching websites that he presented.
