JESUS: MAN, MESSIAH, OR MORE? THE LAST SUPPER, PART V
This video was actually slightly more difficult than usual for me to focus.
After watching/listening to about three times I think I have a better
understanding of their message. The video teaches that the last supper is so
significant because of when it was. The last supper was during the traditional
Jewish holiday, Passover. Through the last supper Jesus gave the Passover
new meaning. In this meal Jesus declared this mission of His life. The
Passover holiday was the idea of atonement and freedom from their bondage
of Egypt. Jesus was saying through the last supper that His death is what will
set them free from their sins. He would be the blood sprinkled on the door
post. Jesus was linking this meal to His anticipated death through the last
supper. The theologians in this video point out that most people when they
think of communion/last Supper do not think of it as a link to the Exodus. The
last supper was not just purely looking back to the exodus but looking
forward to the hope for the future. Jesus embodied these hopes within
Himself. Jesus was giving His disciples a very clear message of what His life
mission was all about. His mission was not just to start a new movement
but being the Passover lamb, He would be the sacrifice for the sins of the
people. This meal was also a symbol of fellowship and life, as churches still
reflect back on what Christ did. If we lose the depth of what Jesus did for us
to know what it is to be free in Christ. We should never trivialize communion.

We should rejoice in remembrance of our freedom through Christ.

Communion is not just about a death it is about a death into new life.
