Bobby hutton

April 21, 1950 Robert James Hutton, or Lil Bobby, was born in Jefferson
County, Arkansas.

December 1966 At age 16, Hutton was the first individual to be recruited into
the Black Panther Party for self-defense.

May 2, 1967 Hutton led 26 other Black Panther members in a protest against the
new gun law in a march at Californias State Capital. All 27 individuals were
arrested.

May 22, 1967 Again Hutton was arrested in California for violating an 1887 law
stating guns are illegal on grounds with a jail.

April 6, 1968 He is killed in an hour and a half shootout with the Oakland
police. Hutton was shot over 12 twelve times even after he surrendered and stripped
down to his underwear to prove he wasnt armed. His death made the Black Panther
Party better and stronger.

April 12, 1968 Huttons funeral is held at the Ephesians Church of God in
Berkeley, California. Over 2,000 individuals attended.

After Death The Lil Bobby Literacy Campaign was organized by the
Commemoration Committee for the Black Panther Party. Family and friends of
Bobby hold a memorial service at DeFremery Park every April since his death.

1998 The City of Oakland renames DeFremery Park to


Bobby Hutton Park in honor of his positive work and his
effect on the Black Panther Party and many others.
