GENTRIFICATION:ACLOSERLOOKATCHARLOTTESCENTERCITY

2
Abstract
Since 2004, gentrification has been the subject of the exploding growth in Charlottes
center city. This case study will examine gentrification in the context of urban space in
Charlottes center-city, whereby higher-income households displace households of lower-income.
By revitalization, this improves the infrastructure of the community. The nature of gentrification
is to revitalize the appearance of a persons basic state of existence relatively unaffecting the
change of the re-assignment of space. However, the intent of gentrification on such
neighborhoods tends to increase home values in older neighborhoods, which push people out. The
separation of space during this process comes across as being deliberate. These findings begin by
tracking the history of the development of Charlottes center city. In Charlotte, the four wards
reveal that high-income families are less likely to share neighborhoods with low-and middleincome households creating a more divided society.
