Craft Mini Lesson

Praise, Question, Prompt

Essential Question:
How can we, as young writers, give constructive feedback to our peers
work?
Objective:
By peer editing, students will be able to review and critique peers narratives
in a helpful, respectful, and constructive manner.
CCSS ELA-WRITING: W.8.5:
With some guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and
strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or
typing a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have
been addressed.
Materials Needed:
Copy of students narrative (one per each student in group)
Pen/pencil/writing utensil
Extra sheet of paper
PowerPoint about peer editing and PQP

TEACHER
Take attendance
Put Praise, Question,
Prompt PPT on board
and explain how peer
editing will work for
today
Ask students get out
their copies of their
paper, a writing utensil,
and an extra sheet of
paper
Group students into
groups of 3-4 by
counting off and
assigning each group a
different spot in the
room to go. Groups
move when done
counting off.
Get attention of groups
and explain that one
person will either read
their story out loud or
have other group
members read silently.
One at a time, students
will give their Praise,
Question, Prompt ideas
to the author.
Walk around the room
and listen, help, observe
groups while they peer

Exit slip with peer editing/PQP reflection
Accommodations:
Bob: Make sure to have Bob in a group with students who will be focused on
the assignment and not belittle him
Sally: Have Sally read her story out loud so she knows what she wrote
instead of having the other students focusing on her mistakes. Or have Sally
explain her story and narrative to the group and get her feedback written
down for her by a designated student based off of her oral idea.
